Letter To Author
To: Mr. Walter D. Myers
Hello my name is Ceoshia Rollen. I am 14 years old and I attend Hillcrest High School in
Memphis, TN. I have read one of your books called "Monster". I think Monster is one of the
most wonderful books I have ever read. I hope you will soon make a movie out of this book. I don’t
think that there was anything in the book that I didn’t like. The reason why I liked it so much
is because the book was like it was a real movie, but in written form. I want to know what made
you write this book? Where did you get the idea from? Is this book based on your
life or someone you know life experience? What made you become a writer? Is this the job you
wanted when you were younger? How has your life changed since you became a writer? I really
enjoyed reading your book, and I’m looking forward to reading another one of your books soon.
Your Reader,

The Rollen Appeal
A Monster on Trial for Robbery & Murder
Steve Harmon, a sixteen year African American male is on trial for the robbery and murder of Mr. Nesbit, a local drugstore owner. Harmon says he didn’t commit or take part in the crimes. The defense attorney, Ms. O’Brien, is trying to prove Harmon's innocence to the judge, the jury, and the people of the community. Her argument is that Osvaldo Cruz and Richard "Bobo" Evans acquaintances of Harmon are lying about his involvement in the crime. She argues that Steve is an innocent young man. However, Ms. Petrocelli is trying to prove to them that James King and Steve Harmon are both guilty young men and labels Steve a monster for his part in the crime. As he awaits the verdict Steve Harmon decides to write his trial as a movie using a journal to pass time. He admits to being at the drug store then changes his story and says he didn’t go near the drug store on the day of the robbery and murder on the 22 of December. His excuse was that he was filming his neighborhood for a class project. Ms. Petrocelli is convinced that he was lying. She kept trying to convince the people of the jury that they both were guilty. Follow this story as it unfolds.Tuesday, November 2, 2010
Monster Book Review
"Monster" By: Walter D. Myers
When I first looked at the cover of the book, I knew it was going to be very interesting. In
the beginning of the story Steve Harmon was arrested for robbery and once was on trial for the
murder Mr. Nesbit. However, Steve was proven innocent. Then he decides to write about his
trial and make it a movie. He wrote down everything that someone says or even does. Mr.
Osvaldo Cruz along with Mr. Richard Evans comes to the trial to testify that Mr. James King
planned the robbery. He stated that Steve Harmon was the look out during the robber.
Meanwhile, Steve testifies in his defense other wise. My opinion about Steve innocent is, that he
was apart of the robbery even if he didn’t actually commit it. With him being the look out made
him even guiltier than the other men. To me the book was a lesson on to be careful of your
surroundings and even you can be blame for something that you didn’t even do! I will love to read more of his books.
